What is IPL?

Intense pulse light (IPL) is an aesthetic treatment that uses light-based therapy to brighten your skin, diminish age spots and broken capillaries, and boost collagen production. IPL improves your skin’s tone and texture with little to no downtime.

Frederick Med Spa uses the most advanced aesthetic tools available. For IPL therapy, the practice uses Lumecca® by InMode™. Lumecca is a powerful IPL tool that treats a wide range of beauty concerns, such as:

  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Age spots
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Dull complexion
  • Acne
  • Broken capillaries
  • Spider veins
  • Freckles
  • Rosacea

The IPL tool uses intense pulses of light to get the desired results. The pulses target the pigmented areas under your skin, causing them to shrink and disappear over time. At the same time, IPL stimulates collagen production, improving your skin’s strength and elasticity.

Am I a candidate for IPL?

Schedule a consultation at Frederick Med Spa to see if you’re a candidate for IPL. Lumecca is an advanced tool that treats a wide array of skin types and conditions.

Frederick Med Spa, however, doesn’t recommend IPL therapy for anyone taking antibiotics or other skin-sensitive medication.

What happens during IPL therapy?

Frederick Med Spa performs IPL therapy at the office. While you lie back and relax on the aesthetic chair, your provider cleans your skin with an antiseptic agent and applies a cooling gel.

They place the Lumecca IPL tool over your skin and start treatment. You may feel a snapping sensation during therapy, but most patients tolerate treatment. If you’re sensitive to pain, your provider may apply a topical numbing agent prior to your IPL.

The length of treatment varies, but usually takes 30 minutes or less.

To get the best results, Frederick Med Spa recommends six IPL sessions. They perform the first three sessions to correct your skin flaws and the last three sessions to brighten your complexion.

What can I expect after IPL therapy?

IPL therapy causes little damage to the skin, so there’s little to no downtime following your treatment. However, everyone is different. You may have some red or dark spots immediately following IPL treatment, but these side effects fade within a few hours.

Frederick Med Spa recommends wearing plenty of sunblock and avoiding extended sun exposure for the first few days following IPL.
